Mission Statement
At South West Art we believe that your local art shop should be at the heart of every art community. We always provide our customers with the best quality products, and the friendliest most professional service and advice.
YOUR NATIONAL LOCAL ART SHOP!
We are an art shop in Devon, based in the regency town of Sidmouth, on the coast in Lyme Bay, part of the Jurassic Coast. However, wherever you are from we know how much art can bring to you.
We want you to be able to paint and draw to the best of your ability, so we do everything we can to make it possible for you to do so, and to be able to afford it too!
History
 Originally established as a retailer of art materials over 20 years ago, as Pictures & Pastimes, the shop has changed and developed over the years, stocking a varied range of stock alongside the art materials.
At the end of 2005 we took over the business and have concentrated on improving the stock holding and the ranges of artist’s materials, and most recently introduced the gallery to provide our local customers with a facility in which to display and sell their art work all year round.
After launching a loyalty scheme in January 2008 we discovered that our customer base covers a far wider area than we had previously realised and so we decided to reflect that in the name of the shop, changing it from Pictures & Pastimes to South West Art.
Art Materials
 We stock quality art materials, from the best art manufacturers and suppliers. In art, as in many things in life, you get what you pay for, cheap art products will not do the job they are supposed to do. We won’t sell any products that won’t work, but we have discounted the suppliers’ retail prices on many of our products.
In addition we run a loyalty scheme, which entitles you to up to 15% off your art materials, and always run special offers on art materials. For details of our discounts see our Service & Advice page, or sign up for our Special Offer updates!
We are a Winsor & Newton Premier Art Centre holding a vast range of their goods and being entitled to all of their special offers. However we also deal directly with a number of other suppliers stocking a vast range of oils, acrylics, pastels, gouache and brushes from kolinsky sable to budget nylon, and much more.
Where possible we try to stock British made goods such as brushes from ProArte, Unison Soft Pastels, Derwent Fine Art Pencils, specialist water colour paper and art pads from St Cuthberts Mill in Somerset etc.
